How to install FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced (2026 guide)
FiveM is finally available on GTA 5 Enhanced. Here's how to install it step by step and join your first server, even if you're new to it.
As of July 21, 2026, FiveM is available in early access on GTA 5 Enhanced, the next-gen PC version of Grand Theft Auto V. Until now, Rockstar’s modded multiplayer only ran on the “Legacy” edition. This guide walks you through installing FiveM for GTA 5 Enhanced and joining your first server.
Requirements before you start
Before installing anything, make sure you have:
- A legitimate copy of GTA V on PC. FiveM checks that the base game is installed and has been launched at least once. GTA 5 Enhanced is the free upgrade offered to GTA V owners on Steam, the Epic Games Store or the Rockstar Games Launcher.
- GTA 5 Enhanced fully updated. Launch the game once in single-player so Rockstar downloads the latest files, then close it.
- An active Rockstar Games / Social Club account that you’re signed into.
- Free disk space. FiveM Enhanced downloads the so-called “Gen9” files required to run servers, so keep several gigabytes free.
Note: early access ships with known bugs, and pure mode is always on — client-side graphics mods are blocked for now.
Step 1 — Download the FiveM Enhanced client
Go to the official website fivem.net. GTA 5 Enhanced uses a dedicated build, separate from Legacy: make sure you pick the installer for the Enhanced edition and download it.
Never install FiveM from a third-party link — that’s the most common scam vector. Only the official fivem.net domain (the Cfx.re project) is trustworthy.
Step 2 — Run the installer
Open the downloaded installer and let it run:
- It automatically detects your GTA V installation.
- It downloads the Gen9 files required to join Enhanced servers.
- It creates a dedicated install folder (by default in
%localappdata%\FiveM).
Let the process finish without closing the window — the first download can take several minutes depending on your connection.
Step 3 — First launch
On first launch, FiveM asks you to sign in with your Rockstar / Cfx.re account. This links your client to your player identity (required to be recognized on servers and keep your progress).
Once signed in, you land on the home screen with the server list.
Step 4 — Join a server
Two ways to connect:
- From the list: click the green “Browse Servers” button, find a server you like, then join. The game launches from the Rockstar Games Launcher and drops you straight into the session.
- From the F8 console: with FiveM open, press
F8, typeconnectfollowed by the server address, then confirm. It’s the fastest method when you already know the address (servers usually share it on their website or Discord).
Nothing to install manually: every server sends its resources automatically when you connect.
Common errors and fixes
- “FiveM couldn’t find GTA V”: launch GTA 5 Enhanced once in single-player, then re-run the installer so it re-detects the game path.
- Black screen on launch: fully close the Rockstar Launcher and FiveM, then relaunch FiveM (which will reopen the launcher cleanly).
- A graphics mod refuses to load: that’s expected — Enhanced’s pure mode blocks client-side graphics changes during early access.
- Legacy / Enhanced confusion: make sure you downloaded the Enhanced build. Legacy server resources aren’t compatible with Enhanced (and vice versa).
What’s next?
Once installed, you can join any Enhanced server. If you enjoy driving and car chases, try Chased: 1v1 hunter-versus-hunted duels built for GTA 5 Enhanced, free and with zero pay-to-win.
