GTA 5 Enhanced is the next-gen PC version of Grand Theft Auto V, released on March 4, 2025 and offered as a free upgrade to owners of the game on Steam, the Epic Games Store and the Rockstar Games Launcher. It brings the PS5 / Xbox Series improvements to PC and now serves as the foundation for FiveM Enhanced. Here’s everything that changes.

Ray tracing is the real star

The most visible addition is ray-traced lighting on PC. Enhanced adds several options:

  • Ray Traced Shadows — sharper, more consistent shadows.
  • Ray Traced Reflections — surfaces, windows and car bodies that genuinely reflect their surroundings.
  • Ray Traced Global Illumination — light bounces off surfaces naturally.
  • Ray Traced Ambient Occlusion — more depth and contact between objects.
  • Scene BVH quality — a slider that controls the precision of the calculation.

Update 1.71 went even further, adding high-resolution ray-traced reflections and a second light bounce for global illumination.

DLSS, FSR and performance

Enhanced includes modern upscaling tech to gain frames per second without sacrificing sharpness:

  • NVIDIA DLSS (shipped as DLSS 3, then updated to DLSS 4).
  • AMD FSR 1 and FSR 3.
  • A resolution scaler and fine-grained quality settings (lighting, reflections, shadows, extended draw distance).

The result: the game comfortably targets 60 FPS, including with ray tracing enabled on suitable hardware.

Visuals and audio

Beyond ray tracing, Enhanced modernizes the whole presentation:

  • HDR for far richer contrast and colors on compatible displays.
  • High-resolution support and graphics presets (up to a “Maximum RT” preset).
  • Dolby Atmos audio for spatial sound.

Loading and comfort

Enhanced takes advantage of recent PC hardware:

  • Much faster loading thanks to SSD and DirectStorage technology.
  • Exclusive Hao’s Special Works content inherited from the next-gen version.

Enhanced or Legacy: which to choose?

Both versions coexist on PC. Enhanced delivers the best visuals (ray tracing, DLSS, HDR) and is the future-facing foundation, notably for FiveM. Legacy remains the original, lighter edition, still preferred by some servers while the modding ecosystem migrates.
