GTA 6: an “Extended Look” lands on Netflix on August 27
Rockstar makes its move: an “Extended Look” at GTA 6 arrives on August 27, exclusive to Netflix for six hours, then free on YouTube.
On Thursday, August 6, 2026, Rockstar Games announced “Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” on X. Not another trailer: a long-form presentation, premiering exclusively on Netflix on August 27 before landing free on YouTube the same day.

What Rockstar didn’t say
Quite a lot, actually. Neither the runtime nor the contents of this “Extended Look” have been disclosed. The Netflix listing settles for “see an extended look at Grand Theft Auto 6, the next evolution in the groundbreaking Grand Theft Auto series.” Nothing about the format: documentary, narrated showcase, raw gameplay, or some mix of the three.
The word “extended” is the only real clue. Rockstar could have written “Trailer 3” — it didn’t. This is a first for the series: so far GTA 6 has only been shown through two short trailers (December 2023 and May 2025), released on Rockstar’s own channels. A long-form piece, premiering on a third-party platform, is new ground. The announcement came with new artwork of the two protagonists, Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval.
On Netflix’s side, Brandon Riegg, VP of nonfiction series, called the partnership a first of its kind and said the platform was “honored that Rockstar Games has partnered with us to debut the next part of the Grand Theft Auto story with Netflix members first.” That “nonfiction” framing feeds the theory of an editorialised piece rather than a plain sizzle reel.
Why Netflix, and why only six hours
The exclusivity window is very short — six hours. Long enough to give Netflix its traffic moment, too short for pirated copies to settle in on YouTube: once the official upload lands, it stands every chance of burying the reuploads in recommendations.
The timing isn’t random either: Take-Two, Rockstar’s parent company, reports quarterly earnings on August 7 before market open, the day after this announcement. A dated marketing beat on the calendar is exactly what a publisher likes to show shareholders three months out from launch.
What it changes for us, FiveM players
Let’s be clear: nothing moves on the PC front. GTA 6 launches November 19, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and no PC version has been announced — so still no FiveM on GTA 6 for a while. We covered that here: FiveM and GTA 6, what we know and GTA 6 on PC, how long the wait.
That said, if this “Extended Look” shows hands-on gameplay, it’s the first serious chance to judge what actually matters to us:
- the driving model — the real question for anything chase- or drift-related;
- the police system — wanted levels, patrol behaviour, scripted versus emergent pursuits;
- traffic density and damage, which decide what a chase through Vice City will even feel like.
It also sets the size of the job for modded servers the day PC arrives: everything has to be rebuilt on the new engine, and the further the driving model drifts from GTA V’s, the longer that migration takes.
